Notifications
Use the notifications bell, understand reminder and notification emails, and choose which product emails Cardinal sends you.
The Notifications Bell
The bell in the top bar collects everything that needs your attention, with a badge counting what you haven't read yet. Click it to open the list; switch between All and Unread with the tabs at the top.
Grouped by What Changed
Activity on the same issue or thread is collapsed into one row, so six comments on one issue don't become six rows. The row names who was involved — Cedric and Maya commented on… — and shows how many updates it holds.
- Click a row to open the issue or thread and mark it read
- Click the dot on a row to mark it read or unread without opening it
- Mark all as read clears the whole list at once
- Reminders and other notices about your own work are kept on their own rows, separate from your teammates' activity
Notification Emails
You don't need to keep Cardinal open to stay on top of things. Unread notifications are also sent to you by email:
- Routine activity is bundled into a summary email, sent at most once every four hours
- Urgent items — activity on an issue marked Urgent, and messages that failed to send on schedule — are emailed right away
- Anything you've already read in Cardinal isn't emailed
Issue Due-Date Reminders
Set a reminder on an issue — On the scheduled date, 1 day before, 3 days before, or Custom — and everyone subscribed to the issue gets a notice such as is due tomorrow (Oct 5, 2026). Reminders are timed to the calendar day at the issue's property, so they arrive on the right day wherever your team is. See the Issues guide.
Scheduled Send Failures
If a message you scheduled misses its send time or hits an error when it's sent, it isn't sent — it goes back to your Drafts instead. You get a notice in the bell and by email straight away; click it to open Drafts, where the draft explains what went wrong. Send or reschedule it and the notice clears itself if you haven't read it yet.
Notification times in the bell are shown in your local time. You can set your own time zone on your Profile.
Email Preferences
Settings → Notifications controls which product emails Cardinal sends you. The setting is per person, not per organization — changing it affects your inbox only, and it follows you across every organization you belong to.
Release Notes
Turn Release notes on to get an email when new features and product updates ship. It's a low-volume summary of what changed — not per-event activity mail.
- The toggle saves as soon as you flip it — there's no separate save button
- Turning it off unsubscribes you from release-notes email immediately; turning it back on resubscribes you
- Your choice applies to you alone — teammates manage their own preference
Notifications Managed Elsewhere
Not every notification is controlled from this page. Work-driven notifications are scoped to the thing they're about, so you control them where that work lives:
- @ mentions notify the person mentioned — mention someone in a comment on the thread or issue itself
- Thread and issue subscribers are managed on the thread or issue, using its subscriber controls
- Due-date reminders are set on each issue, and go to the issue's subscribers
- Urgent issues notify subscribers immediately, including by email, when there's activity on an issue marked Urgent
